Human Resources – Training Is A Must!

Harassment Prevention Training DUE!

Did you know you have to provide Harassment Prevention Training to all your employees including the supervisors and managers? Many business owners are unaware how crucial it is to make sure your employees are receiving the proper amount of harassment prevention training based off the size of your company. California enforces strict laws for training of your employees, and you want to make sure you aren’t in violation of these preventative and safety practices.

“As part of the 2018 Legislative Session, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law Senate Bill 1343, which expands existing harassment training requirements to lower the private sector employer threshold down to 5 or more employees and to mandate one hour of harassment training for nonsupervisory employees of qualified employers, which includes all public agencies.  While the law [became] effective January 1, 2019, it requires most existing nonsupervisory employees to undergo harassment training by January 1, 2020,” according to calpublicagencylaboremploymentblog.com.

Some facts you need to be aware of when it comes to sexual harassment prevention training is that contractors are included in the head count, so having 2 employees plus 3 contractors will mean you need to get them trained. Part time or seasonal employees need to be trained within 30 days or 100 hours worked. Full time hires need training within 6 months of their hire date. Training can be conducted in a classroom or online and can be individually or as a group. Lastly, supervisors need 2 hours of training and non-supervisory employees need 1 hour of training every 2 years.
